I don't know about the Axiom, but the PCR's pads can be configured to be velocity sensitive or left at a fixed velocity, too.
#ROLAND PCR 800 SLIDER KNOB UPGRADE#
Cakewalk will allow you to purchase the SONAR SE or SONAR PE as an upgrade (discounted price) from SONAR LE, so that is very nice as well. SONAR LE is very capable with some limitations. I'm not ready for the Pro Tools jump yet, I'm quite pleased with what I've seen with Sonor, and I know my current old Dell Dimension 8200 which is maxed out at 512mb will never handle Pro Tools. The closest thing I've found is Transfuser, by M-Audio, but it is only for Pro-Tools.

I'm also looking for a soft synth/sampler that will function in conjuction with the controller the same way. I'd like to use it in my studio on the Dell, and live on the Sony Laptop. Keys for instruments, triggers for samples, store as preset ala song title. I'd like to come as close as possible to use a controller + soft synth/sampler to function as much like a Fantom X does, very simple. So far, a plus for me is that the Edirol ships with Sonor LE, licensed and registerable for full product support. I've seen demo video's of both the PCR-900 and the Axiom 61.īoth have assignable trigger pads, both are 61 key controllers, both have USB and Midi, as well as sustain pedal and expression pedal inputs, both have assignable sliders and knobs.

I have a friend whom has the Roland Fantom X8 and he assigns instruments to the keys, effects and samples such as I described above onto the trigger pads. I like the idea of keeping the samples off of the keyboard and assigned to only the trigger pads. I used to use the QS7 just for live playing, but since I sold my Roland PK5 and Alesis QSR when I quit touring, The QS7 is for everything now.įor triggering the samples, I used the PK5/QSR combo freeing my hands up to play either guitar or keys, whichever was needed at any particular part of the song.

I currently use an Alesis QS7, I dump samples such as "one shot" spoken phrases, a few loops here and there, and I play keys/piano on a several songs.
